mister toad + wild ride

Just sitting around waiting for my grandparents to arrive from San Diego in their mötorhöme - not sure how long they'll be here, but will be great to see them again. Found this. I think I'm completely over the wicked hangover I had yesterday; saturday night H & Sasha & I went on an allnight drunk in Seattle, skirting the capital hill block party and ending up in Ballard, via some Irish pub with cheap great beer and a bitchy bartender. Good fucking times, though. In Ballard we saw the band of one of S's friends, and I became transparently smashed, and got carried away with telling people how talented they are, how they're going to make it big, etc. I think the joke in my mind was a mashup of Outlaw Star and Tony Robbins, but it came out obnoxious. Oh well. At one point did I, yes indeed, accost an entire group of middle-aged asian women and inform them that they too have great potential and not to waste it. Or something like that. Also I think I convinced people I don't know well enough that I'm a satanist or other occultish junky, just because i went on a spiel about a guy's tattoo of a unicursal hexagram. Whatever. Symbols interest me.

Point is, adventure. S'what I get for enlisting Turskys in hijinks, good bloody times.

t'aint no sin

When you hear sweet syncopation, and the music softly moans
‘t ain’t no sin to take off your skin, and dance around in your bones

When it gets too hot for comfort, and you can’t get an ice cream cone
‘t ain’t no sin to take off your skin, and dance around in your bones

Just like those bamboo babies, down in the South Sea tropic zone
‘t ain’t no sin to take off your skin, and dance around in your bones

‘t ain’t no sin to take off your skin, and dance around in your bones

memento mori

Gonna be hot again, soon. Weather on the offensive: seek water.

Monday was the funeral of my cousin's husband Josh. That was very difficult, I can only try (feebly) to imagine how much more so for Shannon. If this year hadn't already brought new life then I'm not sure I'd feel as safe about the balance of things on a large scale. And still, not too secure in that area; 2 years ago (on the 31st), I played the piano at that guy's wedding. Can't quite get over that. Hm.

Otherwise life is very good - Braden's birthday party was a smash, at least, I was pretty smashed. His friends ended up doing a roast for him later in the night, we drug out an old dresser for a podium, and he sat in the chair as everyone took turns saying some very funny shit. And yesterday H & I drove around Tacoma for hours and ended up seeing A Scanner Darkly, which was very strange and therefore very enjoyable. Yes, even despite Keanu.

Not much else to report. Running 3 miles most days lately, so colors are brighter and my brain works with me instead of against me. Sometimes. And that's fun.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRADEN!!

This morning i accompanied B=mc^2 & f(Na)=Ah to the Karpeles manuscript museum, which is having an exhibition of Einstein manuscripts (with a Newton & a Faraday thrown in), very apropos for B's b-day. Very interesting stuff, especially what the - umm - eager to inform curator took out of the back room to show us, which included some kind of manifest from the Titanic, the actual arrest record of Josef Stalin w/ picture, and CS Lewis's original notes as to Narnia's internal timeline, mapped out in comparison with ours from 1901 - 1940 (e.g. 1 narnia time, Aslan creates world: 1901 earth time, something something whatever). I think the guy was really happy to have visitors. He just kept talking, though fortunately just about everything he said was interesting. He kept saying "usually I can't/don't do/show/talk about this," like when he took out the 3000 yr old (?) little burial figuring inscribed with magical formula ("ubashti?") and let us hold it. Guess we looked trustworthy. Anyway, free admission, so (as he asked us to) I encourage everybody I know to come on by.

Any old way, party tonight, all are invited.

the easy winners...?

I love the internets. Today on DC++ a swede messaged me (on my favorite classical hub, of course) to ask about piano fingerings for a Joplin piece he's working on ("The Easy Winners"). He even sent me a link to a youtube video of someone playing it, in case I could figure out the fingerings that way. So I went to my piano, then made him a jpeg in mspaint of my advised fingerings, and sent it to him, and he sent me this, [not him playing]. Maybe he was impressed when, after he apologized for his (perfect) spelling, I said "no, I should apologize for not speaking swedish."

wtf, mate?

The world is insane.

hungry bread & butter hustle

Wedding in Bellingham last night... there's something magical about such a large number of people each with 3-4 drinks in them gathering to celebrate. Can't describe it, have to revel in it. Worth the drive just to see so many complete strangers so giddy. Sat at a table with 3 folks who ended up being totally hilarious. This is what life is about, far as I'm concerned.

Today? Dad. Then work. Here's another pic:

All so violent, all so sure

I’ve been thinking
Better (not) think
Better chance, better rosary
Words are green,
And words are weed
We get dressed,
Now lets all go out, oh lets
The dye in my face is hot
And all the kids
At breakfast time
better drink it all
if i let ya have it
I need mouth water
I need mouth water

undead undead undead

dude... TV on the Radio plays, Trent Reznor sings, Peter Murphy (of Bauhaus) stands there looking badass (and sings alittle), Bela Lugosi is Dead.

The internet is quite generous this morning.
