praise of folly

Skipped français today, glorious sunshiney day that it is, and walked with the sea breeze at my back up to Hava's campus for lunch during her class break. A beautiful 2 hours, wouldn't have traded that for french (or much else). Wandered in & out of the brick buildings with cement interiors, large wood & glass doors nearly indistinguishable from the walls, innumerable tiny out-of-the-way bathrooms throughout, forgotten and still. Didn't take pictures, sorry.

I'm gonna miss the bejesus out of this town. I may quite probably end up here again. But in the meantime there is much more ground to cover, and dwindling time in which to do it. Exploration awaits.

I've been playing with my blog-template quite eggregiously, so if my blog looks all whack, please let me know. Word.

Anyway tomorrow after a 9-3 myself and B & H will be driving down south to catch a Mariners game with my Mom & Casey. Yaaay! Can't wait, that's gonna be fun, even though I'm not the biggest baseball fan. I guess the party we were planning for her will have to be postponed still longer, though whenever that actually happens, as before it's open to all.

More to come.

Psycho-killer: Quest-ce que c'est?

First week back in school has been great, and entertaining to boot; my schedule works out just right so every day is consistent, with no several-hour breaks to tempt my laziness / wandering attentions. My Speech teacher reminds me of a cross between Frieda Kahlo and Tim Meadows, which, hm. What do you say to that? Geology, which is actually Oceanography, is far more interesting than I was expecting. And French... oh oui, Je t'aime, French. Let's just say I'm using my throat for all new things. New favorite word of all time: feuille. "Leaf." Beautiful.

Tonight is for relaxing. A little sad, because it's my mom's birthday and we don't get to go down this weekend to bash it up with her, but she says she's not picky about perfect timing, and surely schedules must align sometime! Well, she's happy and that's the point. Casey's got it covered, which makes me more than content.

ARE YOU A DISCORDIAN?
---------------------
Yes, indeed; you, my friend, may very well be an
honest-to-goodness Discordian -- without ever even
realizing it! There exists in this world (and has always
existed) a healthy number of special people -- yes, very
special people -- who are tied (often to their protests)
together in a philosophical propensity towards an
appreciation of Chaos.
Sometimes this is intuitive, sometimes overt,
sometimes seemingly accidental; but always, in essence,
it is but the Goddess Discordia ("Eris") presenting
evidence of Her divinity to this elite society.
As far back as we can trace, the Goddess Eris was
worshipped by the ancient Greeks as the Deity of
Strife and Discord; the Romans re-named Her "Discordia";
but now.... but now She has reappeared on the theological
scene once more: THE DISCORDIAN SOCIETY IS RETURNED!

"This animal represents the transition from water to land - the part of history that includes ourselves," said Neil Shubin of the University of Chicago, who led the discovery team. "It’s as much a part of our history as, say, Australopithecus africanus."

lighter later! lighter later!

Spring break is over, and spring commences in a scholastic capacity tomorrow morning at eleven. Last week was quiet, but relaxing. So each night we've been getting an episode or 2 further into Lost (no, I haven't followed that link yet; spoil nothing for me, dammit). That show is amazingly good.

So tonight at work I was filling the yogurt case, and out of the corner of my eye I see this little boy dart towards the yoplait, apparently away from his sister (these kids are like 5) who, pushing the cart, calls after him, "Stephen! You're the brakes! Come back Stephen!" Funny, right? Not to me, at first. Somehow my brain turned the clock forward 20 years to when these kids are living in low-income housing, and the sister has a chemical dependancy which she blames on her brother (why? I'm not going to get that dark), and she says during an emotional phone conversation - "You're the BRAKES, Stephen! Come BACK! YOU'RE THE BRAKES!!" Ew. Why would my brain do that to me?
